Adding or registering a device to your Microsoft account helps you see its warranty status, get support or request service. You can also find or lock it if it's lost.
Add a device to your Microsoft account
To add an Xbox console, controller or other accessory to your account:
Go to account.microsoft.com/devices, sign in, and select Register device to continue.
Enter your device's serial number to register it to your account.
If you have multiple consoles, change the default name of your Xbox so you can quickly identify it in your Microsoft account.
Press the Xbox button on your controller and navigate to Profile & system (with your account icon).
Select Settings > System > Console info > Name.
Enter the new name and select Enter.
Restart your Xbox.
Unable to add a device
If you’re unable to add a device, it could be for the following reasons:
We’re unable to add macOS or mobile devices at this time.
It’s already added to another account.
If your PC is managed or owned by your company or organization, you cannot register it to your personal account.
Remove or unlink a device
You should unlink any devices you no longer use, because you can only download Microsoft Store apps and content to 10 devices attached to your account. If you can't download content from the Microsoft Store, you may have reached your device limit.
To unlink a device to free up downloads:
Sign in with your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com/devices/content
Find the device you want to remove and select Unlink
Review your device details and select Unlink.
To remove a PC because you don’t own or use it anymore:
Sign in with your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com/devices
Find the device you want to remove and select Remove device.
Check the box to confirm removal, and select Remove.
To unlink a mobile device because you don’t own or use it anymore:
Sign in with your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com/devices/android-ios
Find the device you want to remove and select Unlink.
Notes:
Once you unlink a device, it no longer counts toward your device limit. If you download an app or game on this device later, it will count towards your device limit again.
If you're having trouble downloading or updating apps on any of your devices, see Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store or I can't find or install an app from Microsoft Store.
