At the time of his first election in 2016, Donald J. Trump was the oldest man ever elected to the office of President of the United States. Trump was born on June 14, 1946. When he was sworn in as the 45th president on January 20, 2017, he was 70 years, 7 months and 6 days old.
Trump became the second oldest president at election when he was defeated by Joe Biden in 2020. Upon his second election as the 47th president on November 5, 2024, he was 78, regaining the position as the oldest president. At his inauguration on January 20, 2025, Trump was 78 years, 7 months and 6 days old. Trump’s age today is 79.
The second oldest man ever elected to the presidency is Joseph R. Biden Jr. Born on November 20, 1942, he was 77 when elected on November 3, 2020. Biden was 78 years and 2 months when inaugurated on January 20, 2021. He left office after one term and is now 82.
The third oldest president is Ronald Reagan, who was 69 years, 11 months and 14 days old when he was first sworn in on January 20, 1981.
John F. Kennedy is the youngest-ever elected president, aged 43.
However, Theodore Roosevelt is the youngest person to ever become president. He was 42 when he succeeded to the presidency, following the assassination of William McKinley.

James (Jimmy) Earl Carter, who died at the age of 100 on December 29, 2024, was the oldest person ever to have been president. He is the only former president to have reached 100.
