Outlook can't connect to AOL anymore

There have been a lo of people reporting problems with connecting to accounts using AOL servers in the last couple of weeks - especially with Verizon/AOL accounts, have answered many of them spanning all versions of Outlook - not just '365

One of the most recent was the following (but there have been many others)

So just to confirm some things

#1 - Is this regarding an account that was already configured in Outlook or is this a new account you are adding?

#2 - You generated an <App Password> as the email account password correct?

One thing to eliminate a corrupt profile as a possibility, would suggest creating a new Outlook profile and configuring the account by just entering the email address / AOL <App Password> for the account to see if it changes anything

a) - With Outlook closed open the Control Panel <Mail> app

b) - Select <Show Profile> --> <Add> --> give the new profile a name (do not remove the old profile at this point

c) - Configure the AOL email account

d) - Set the newly created Outlook profile as the default for the next time Outlook is opened otherwise it'll use the old profile
